Making a Lifelong Impact

I’ve worked in the healthcare industry my entire professional life.

During my last year at Northern Illinois University, I completed an internship at a local nursing home and after graduation, became the director of social services there. This experience truly allowed me to foster my love of helping others and making a difference. Through the years, I found where my strengths lie in service to others. I achieved certification and received my Nursing Home Administrator’s License, quickly accepting an administrator position locally.

Shortly thereafter, my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

I looked to our organization twenty-two years ago to assist in caring for my mother at the end of her life. I learned so much about "patient-centered goals and wishes." My mother wanted to die at home. She was able to do so with my father and me at her side.

I realized at that time, “WOW, one day I would like to work in the hospice field.” It was such a wonderful experience and assisted not just me, but my entire family in getting mentally healthy again. I even went through the support group twice. I needed that extra help, and I got it.

I started working for hospice, at JourneyCare, almost 10 years ago now, and have not looked back. It is and has been such a rewarding and gratifying career path.

Through the years, many of my family members have been JourneyCare patients. Once again, a great experience in each case. I realize the importance of what our organization does. I am so proud to be a part of JourneyCare as Director of Patient and Family Experience. It truly is all about “the experience” for the patients we serve each day. We know we need to do the right thing for every patient every time. This honestly leaves a lasting impression for all.

My goal is that each patient and family we care for experiences excellent, expert and exquisite end-of-life services. We seek to provide our families with competent, supportive care they can feel confident with, as well as support during such a difficult and possibly distressing time in their life. This will help those families navigate through their pain and loss to help them reach peace and emotional healing.

    Such wonderful work you and all of Journey Care do everyday. Your thoughts touched my heart for being able to see your dedication to helping others - and because they were posted on the birth date of my late wife two and a half years after she died they were special. She passed away suddenly of natural causes without care but I spent a long time through therapy with Journey Care in Glenview where I was introduced by her through her volunteering and am so thankful for what you and Eric do everyday for so many!! - Keep up the Journey!
