Heart, Compassion and Fortitude
LaShawn Gordon

For me, the joy in my role as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) comes from my interaction with our patients. No day is ever the same. I take great pride in my work and do my best to make each patient feel as if they are the only patient I am caring for that day. I have been a CNA for many years and always strive to create special relationships with patients.

One thing I have noticed about our hospice staff is the amount of care and attention they provide to patients. I have been touched many times in observing how nurses treat those in our care. Seeing the patients treated with so much dignity and honor makes me proud to work for Midwest CareCenter.

A hospice CNA must be a special person. They must have heart, compassion and the fortitude to give of themselves to each person they see. When I first began working in this field, I received this advice: "Every time you finish grooming a patient it's like signing your check. Take pride in your work." To this day I live by that advice and give of myself to our patients.
