Kathryn Kane, Artist
Kathryn Kane retired in 2008 after a career in brand management and marketing for international and national counseling and nonprofit firms. She now pursues her lifelong desire to study art; in recent years, she has focused on painting in watercolor and acrylics.
Her solo exhibit, The Extraordinary Ordinary, is currently on exhibit at Journey Care, Glenview IL, featuring her semi-abstract interpretations of mundane nature: tree bark, tree mushrooms, water and ice. A prototype of the show was held at Oakton College, Des Plaines, IL in March, 2016.
Kathryn currently has work on exhibit at the Northern Illinois University’s Community College Art Faculty Invitational & Juried Student Exhibit in DeKalb through Feb. 24, 2017, as well as in the upcoming New Orleans Art Association’s 2016 National Exhibition, Mar. 4-31, 2017. A selection of Kathryn’s paintings was on exhibit throughout 2016 at the Illinois Board of Higher Education in Springfield, IL. She has exhibited in a number of juried and group shows, including Celebrate, Contemplate, Flow Art Space, St. Paul, MN and The Abstract Show IV, at the Brickton Gallery in Park Ridge, IL.
A native of Chicago, she received her undergraduate degree in English from Loyola University of Chicago, and did graduate work in film study at the University of Iowa. She resides with her husband, Allen Giedraitis, an accomplished photographer, and their black cat, Ninja, in Park Ridge, IL.
